Why Nursing?

Currently, I work as a nursing assistant II in an out patient surgical unit and many of my patients always ask me why I chose nursing. Well here is my answer! I always knew from a young age around 6-7 that I wanted to do something in the medical field. I always said that I wanted to be a doctor. Then I wanted to be a dentist than an orthodontist, then a brain surgeon, then an orthopedic doctor. When I was in high school, I decided to enroll in this new class that my high school was starting called allied health science. The allied health science I class goes into some basic anatomy and physiology, medical terms, and vocabulary. In the second part, I became certified in CPR and was able to do clinical in a nursing home to get my CNA I. During these clinical experiences, I fell in love with nursing! I love being at the bedside. I don't feel strong connections to all of my patients but the ones that I actually make connections with make up for all of the ungrateful or difficult patients that I take care of. Although, I would never again want to work in a nursing home and I prefer other specialties where I can work with diverse groups of critically ill patients. Being in nursing allows me to make connections with people in their most vulnerable states. I wanted to make a difference in the world and I feel that nurses do that daily. I know that I want to further pursue the nursing field and get my masters degree in either anesthesia or nurse practioner and I still think about going to medical school from time to time so I don't know what the future holds but for now I am going to make a difference in the world one patient at a time.

Your Patients

Your patients will teach you more about nursing than you will teach them! I am really excited for my future in nursing and I am ready to being my career. The opening statement is helping me to stay inspired and motivated during this last semester as a nursing student transitioning to an RN.

About me

I am a 21 year old, female, BSN, RN nursing student. I will graduate from nursing school in May 2013. I am from North Carolina. I have just applied for my first nursing job. I want to work in either critical care or emergency after I graduate. I am planning on blogging about my preceptorship, studying for the NCLEX, and working as a nurse. I am really excited about my nursing journey. Any advice or questions are welcomed!

New Grad Nurse Journey

Hi! I will graduate from  nursing school in May of 2013 if I can make it the rest of the way!!! I am starting this blog to write about my experiences as a nurse. I am excited to document this journey. I also want this to be a place where I can give other nursing students or new grads advice and I can receive advise as well. If you are reading this and are interested I would be excited for you to follow me on this journey as well. I want this to be a place where I/we can share the many emotions that accompany being a nurse. I hope to be posting blogs on a regular bases. :)
